Manton Grange 15th October 2007

A lovely autumn
morning graced the new meet at Manton Grange, generously
hosted by Ken and Jilly
Carter. What a superb location for a lawn meet, complete with canapés and port.
There were only two short lines, but with a steep hill to climb directly away
from the meet and beautifully built little fences (rather surprisingly nothing
was over 2’ 3’’ – some looked bigger) it was an ideal early season romp and
fantastic for
the many first-timers to get a feel for the sport. Hounds hunted
well over the wet grass and clever line-laying meant that the field had good
viewing of hounds working. We then hacked hounds across the river and around
water meadows, with a few more well presented fences thrown in, including a
flower bed! All had fun fording the river and there was added entertainment of
negotiating a small herd of Exmoor ponies!
A wonderful tea of shepherds pie followed, seating everyone in a mixture of the dining room, the kitchen and the indoor swimming pool! A great day with a distinct party feel.
