Highworth 6th Dec 2006
A small, select field
met for the mid-week meet at Common Farm. Essentially the same lines were used
as on the earlier Sunday meet (19th Nov), omitting the line over the even higher
river - a lake had formed in the area we had used to hold hounds at the end of
the second line. Ian Balding took up the mantle of fieldmaster and, despite his
usual exhortation to the field to be sure to gallop on at the hedges, fell foul
of the ditch on landing at the first hedge to be tackled! His main embarrassment
was the requirement of a leg up which, with Ian's luck, was provided by the most
attractive lady in the field (she was riding a small polo pony)! Despite the
wetness ground, all the lines rode well and these lovely hedges provided their
usual thrill.
