Brockhurst 11th Feb 2007
With snow lying on
Thursday and Friday, the essential fence building for the Englefield meet was
impossible and so David Fleming very kindly allowed us to hunt his lines at
Marlston Farm, meeting in the courtyard of Brockhurst School.
Despite horrendous
forecasts of rain and hail, it turned out to be a mild and at times, sunny day
and the free-draining gravely ground rode extremely well. More punters should
have kept faith as it was a great day, hounds hunting well as always.
Billed as a children's' meet, quite a few came out - the three white woolly
ponies in evidence again, joined by some look-alikes and an
off-the-moor Exmoor!
Lines were in a different order from our last two visits here, principally so
that the ponies would be still fresh to wade down the pretty full River Pang.
One adult looked rather wet below the waste at the end of this line! A group of
Canada geese looked very much in their element on Brockhurst's lake, completely
oblivious of the passing of horses and hounds.
Finally, we had an impromptu tea in the horsebox park, all sorts of hot
beverages, doughnuts and biscuits - a convivial way to round off the day.
